Hotel Design
The original Austro Hungarian villa had deteriorated to such a state of disrepair that it had to be completely reconstructed. In designing the building, a new “glass box” extension replaced a once windowless space on the river side of the villa; and a contemporary, accommodation wing was added at the rear. The architectural challenge was to combine the modern parts of the building with the historic villa in a sympathetic design, so as not to detract from the original building’s historic position in the village.
Room & Suites Design
18 individually styled rooms are arranged between the Austro-Hungarian villa and the contemporary extension, and are furnished with locally sourced timbers. Villa rooms have a traditional feel, while our modern rooms in Bohinj accommodations have a minimalist alpine design. The two styles merge seamlessly around the newly appointed stairwell, which combines traditional and contemporary elements and overlooks a striking beaten brass chandelier.
The interiors are designed to create an atmosphere of homely comfort with a splash of humour and a nod to nature and local farming and hunting traditions - a friendly sheep greets guests at the front door and a cackle of crows perches on the blackened dining room wall. Other local traditions are also embraced: the heritage of an ironworks and blacksmithing, which date back to the founding of the Bohinj settlement, are evident in the metal work, both in the interior architectural detailing, and, in the lovingly restored wrought iron railings on the front of the villa; and also in the oft blackened walls.
Supreme comfort
All of our suites & rooms in Bohinj accommodation feature soundproofed walls and sound insulating triple glazed windows. Natural local timbers are used for bespoke carpentry and safe, ecological and hygienically impeccable ceramics with underfloor and wall heating in the bathrooms. Each room has it’s own individually controlled AC.
